A Silent Art Auction and Raffles will be held 5-10 p.m. March 2 on the third floor of Summit Artspace, 140 E. Market St., during the Downtown Akron Arti Gras.

Admission is free. Bidding ends at 9 p.m. for the event, proceeds from which will benefit Artists of Rubber City’s scholarship fund and help with the upkeep of the Box Gallery exhibition space.

Up for auction are works by members and nonmembers, presented for auction and with “buy-it-now” prices. Being raffled are items such as a year membership to the Akron Art Museum and a Don Drumm gift certificate.

Featured artists include the Akron Art Prize first-place winner Ron White, Claudia and Michael from Zeber-Martell Clay Studio and Gallery, Akrona Galleries, Don Drumm Studios and Gallery, Mark Soppeland, John Sokol, Joan Colbert, Leona Bowser, Jack Valentine and many more.

Kyle Magilavy Jazz Combo will provide entertainment, and “Sheepy Boo Peep” will make an appearance.

Nominations sought

The Cleveland Arts Prize is accepting nominations for recognition in 2013 in the areas of visual arts, music and dance, literature and design.

The organization also awards the Martha Joseph Prize and Robert P. Bergman Prize to individuals or organizations for arts leadership.

Deadline to submit is next Thursday. Winners will be announced near the first of May; awards will be presented at a June ceremony at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Prizes include five emerging artist awards ($5,000 each) and four mid-career artists awards.

Deadline

The deadline to nominate someone for the Young Audiences’ Arts, Education and Entrepreneurship Awards is 5 p.m. March 15. Nominations are open to all.

Use creativity to nominate individuals who exemplify elements of the three award categories: arts, education and entrepreneurship.

Nominations are encouraged from professional colleagues, business and community leaders, school administrators and parents.
