Fifty West Brewing Co., a new brewery in Cincinnati, opened its taproom last weekend. "The first weekend was great!" co-owner Whit Hesser said in an email. "The turnout at the brewery and taproom far exceeded our expectations. We were also very happy that just about all of the local brewers here in Cincinnati stopped by to show their support."

The taproom hours are: 5 p.m. to midnight Thursday; 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday; noon to 2 a.m. Saturday; and noon to midnight Sunday.

"We have quite a selection on tap right now," Hesser said. "We have roughly 15 beers on tap that were all brewed on premise at Fifty West. The most popular beers over the weekend were the Coast to Coast IPA, Coffee Stout Please (on nitro), Christmas Cookie Ale and the Speedbump Light Ale. We are expecting to have two new beers on tap in the taproom within the next couple of weeks including our Scotch Ale and Dunkelweizen. Lastly, we are approaching the completion of our first barrel aged beer -- the Loneliest Road Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout. We are hoping to have a limited taproom (and maybe bottle) release around New Years!"

Hesser, Blake Horsburgh and Bobby Slattery opened the brewery in the former Heritage Restaurant on Wooster Pike.

"It feels great to finally be open -- we have been working on this project for several years now, and to get the taproom open was a huge stepping stone for us," Hesser said. "All of the feedback and discussion around craft beer was amazing and we believe that this taproom will be a critical component to our long-term success. We have some very exciting news that will be announced on our social media outlets (still working out details). We hope to have the details and announcement out before the end of the week but encourage anyone who is interested to like/follow us on Facebook/Twitter."
