To help celebrate its 25th anniversary in September, Great Lakes Brewing Co. announced its bottled beers will feature a limited edition silver crown this year. The crown includes the words "25 Years." The 25th anniversary seal also will appear on Great Lakes packaging and point-of-sale materials.
Great Lakes, located in Cleveland, is Ohio's oldest craft brewery. It started as a brewpub producing 1,000 barrels the first year. Last year, the brewpub and production brewery made 131,777 barrels. The brewery bottles and distributes 14 year-round and seasonal beers, and also produces many draft-only brews.
In addition to packaging updates this year, Great Lakes will make two commemorative beers. The first is a collaborative effort with Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery. It's a smoked porter that will join Deschutes’ Class of ‘88 collaboration series. The second, an official 25th anniversary beer, is being developed and will be released in the summer, the brewery said.
The year-long anniversary celebration will culminate in a series of local and regional events, including a block party in the Ohio City neighborhood on Sept. 6, the official anniversary date, the brewery said. More details will be announced as the anniversary date approaches.
The brewery also has announced it has renovated two dining rooms. The brewpub’s Rockefeller and Market Rooms feature historical brewery artifacts, a wall made from bourbon barrel tops once used to age Bourbon Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout, vinyl booths featuring Great Lakes’s label artwork, and a full bar and tables made from reclaimed Cleveland wood.
"The completion of this project represents [Great Lake's] commitment to providing their customers with an exceptional dining experience," the brewery said. Co-owner Pat Conway will cut a ribbon for the dining rooms during a private event next week.
